There are no rules in art

I think we can probably all agree that the past 2 years have been quiet the ride. With a lot of uncertainties, enormous amounts of change and the daily use of face masks, we really had to learn how to pivot. But maybe some good change can rise from the COVID ashes? I know that with the extra amount of alone time, at least for me, it was hard not to look inwards and reflect on what actually brings joy to my daily life. With the way life is so public and how most monumental moments now involve a professional photographer, I feel like we tend to think of ourselves as the person we think people see instead of being who want to be. So I took a step back from who I thought others thought I was and decided to find out for myself.

I signed up for online university and finally did what I had been saying I was going to do for the last two years. Learning and jumping back into something I hadn’t done in over a decade was scary but possibly the most rewarding step towards my personal growth. Understanding how to breakdown typography and making prints from something I drew was so exciting. My brain started to crave more and I was fascinated with everything that was coming my way, the opposite of how I thought it was going to go. The snowball affect was happening and my passion to create was stronger than ever. I always felt like I had to find just one creative outlet and be really really good at it but now I began to see that mediums can blend together like colours.

There are no rules in art.

You can create your own reality of what your art is.

You control the narrative.

Lately I have been playing a lot with watercolour and trying to see how different shades of pastels can I form. This carried over into a batch of tie dye I did earlier this week, when I mixed new shades of pastels I’d never tried before. My confidence in colour theory and understanding how to blend is leading to more exploration creatively in all my mediums. I’ve decided to create a collection of watercolour work as well as bring back tie dye to the website. Which is why this is going to end here so I can get them photographed and online.

Looking forward to sharing my latest creations with you!
